Food for Thought: Believe in the Impossible
In Lewis Carroll’s Through the Looking Glass, the White Queen tells Alice, "Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast."
It's one of my favorite quotes because every meaningful change begins with someone willing to believe that the impossible is possible.
As we celebrate Independence Day and the 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding, it's worth remembering that our country began with people who believed bold ideas could become reality. Throughout history, progress has come from those willing to pursue what others thought couldn't be done.
That same belief drives everything we do at Northwest Arkansas Food Bank.
I’ve heard it said that “You can’t solve hunger through food banking.” They’re right. Food banking alone won’t solve hunger. But I’ll tell you what is impossible: solving a problem you’ve already decided cannot be solved.
This year, we’ve set an ambitious goal of distributing 16.5 million pounds of food. We’re growing programs like Feed Rogers, Mobile Pantry, and Market on the Move. We’re helping our agency partners and school pantries expand their capacity to serve more neighbors because stronger partnerships create stronger communities.
These aren’t just initiatives. They’re proof that we believe tomorrow can be better than today.
Real progress rarely comes from a single breakthrough. It comes from hundreds of small ideas, thoughtful investments, and people who refuse to accept that today’s challenges have to become tomorrow’s reality.
That’s where you come in.
